Dear Young Lawyers,

The Utah Minority Bar Association, in conjunction with the Young Lawyers Division and Women Lawyers of Utah, would like to invite you to a "Meet the Candidates" Event in anticipation of the upcoming election. You are an impressive group of well-qualified candidates to lead our Bar. We hope that each of you can join us. The details are as follows:

Date: Tuesday, May 27 – (ballots go out May 30)

Time: 5:30pm

Place: Holland & Hart LLP
          60 E. South Temple, 20th Floor
          Salt Lake City, UT 84111

(Free parking underneath the Smith Memorial Building - entrance on South Temple between Main and State Street)

Agenda: Brief introductions by the Third Division Commissioner candidates, followed by two 10-minute presentations by the President-Elect Candidates (approx. time - we won't have a chess clock like a former federal jurist!). Ending with a moderated Q&A session for all candidates.

We will be providing refreshments and hope to socialize before and after the main event.

      PURPOSE
In 1990, the ABA YLD, in conjunction with the Center on Children and the Law, established the Child Advocacy Award to honor lawyers for distinguished service on behalf of children. The award:

* recognizes the contributions to the legal profession by child advocates who have actively labored on behalf of children
* celebrates the often unheralded service that child advocates bring to children and the legal profession

ELIGIBILITY
Any lawyer or judge involved in child advocacy is eligible. The ABA Young Lawyers Division Child Advocacy Award is given to an individual, based on an individual's personal achievement and commitment. It is not given to groups of people, organizations, or posthumously.
CATEGORIES
The Division will announce one award for each category:

* Young Lawyer (on September 1, 2008 the individual must be less than 36 years of age or admitted to practice in his/her first bar within the past five years)
* Non-Young Lawyer (on September 1, 2008 the individual must be 36 or more years of age or admitted to practice in his/her first bar more than five years)

DEADLINES

* April 30, 2008: deadline for all nominations and letters of recommendation
* June 15, 2008: winners selected and all nominees and nominators will be notified of outcome

NOMINATION PROCESS
The nomination must be received no later than April 30, 2008 in electronic form (preferably as one document in either PDF or Microsoft Word format) via email at yld@staff.abanet.org. If email is not available, a copy saved on a disc can be mailed to Tracy Kaempf at ABA YLD, 321 North Clark Street, Suite 1800, Chicago, IL 60610 (fax nominations will not be considered). The nomination must include the following items:

* A completed ABA YLD Child Advocacy Award nomination form signed by the nominator. Click here to fill out the PDF form. For best results, type your answers into the form and save it to your computer. Then add the additional pages to the PDF document. If you need assistance with this process, contact Rob King at kingr@staff.abanet.org.
* A nomination letter from nominator explaining the qualifications of the nominee and setting forth the reasons why the nominee should be awarded the ABA YLD Child Advocacy Award.
* The nominee’s biographical resume, including an explanation of the nominee’s legal service on the behalf of children, employment and professional history.
* Two to four letters of recommendation. Examples include letters from the nominee’s clients, individuals familiar with the nominee’s service on behalf of children, the nominee’s current or former employers, fellow practitioners, or any other individual who can explain why the nominee should receive the ABA YLD Child Advocacy Award.

Please include your nominee in the preparation process to ensure an accurate and complete nomination.
