The Utah State Bar Young Lawyers Division invites all attorneys living and working in Salt Lake County to volunteer their time for the Wills for Heroes pro bono event scheduled for January 17, 2009. Wills for Heroes provides, through volunteer attorneys, wills and other estate planning documents for emergency first responders and their spouses or partners. There are over 100 Salt Lake County first responders and their significant others that will qualify to have Wills for Heroes prepare their free estate planning documents on January 17, 2009.

The YLD will teach you all you need to know to participate in this great volunteer
opportunity – you just need to attend the mandatory training session held 30 minutes prior to the event, and sign up to confirm your intent to volunteer. We need volunteer attorneys for shifts between 3 and 6 hours long.

REQUIRED TRAINING
All interested attorney volunteers must attend the mandatory pre-event training session, unless you have previously been trained. The training session will be offered from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at 7602 South Jordan Landing Blvd, West Jordan. Attorney volunteers will be trained on the HotDocs® program, receive a primer on basic estate planning, and will qualify for one hour of CLE/NLCLE credit. If you intend to have an assistant complete data entry during the event, then please have your assistant attend the HotDocs® training.

Part/Full Time
Per the Governor's "Working 4 Utah" initiative, beginning August 4 the schedule for this position will be 10 hour days Monday-Thursday. This is a pilot program and will be evaluated fall 2009; schedule subject to change.

May be required to work beyond the 4 x 10 hour schedule depending upon workload and deadlines. This is an appointed, career service exempt position residing in the Governor's Office, Commission on Criminal & Juvenile Justice.

Job Characteristics
This is an appointed, career service exempt job. Incumbent in this job coordinates the activities of and reports to the Judicial Performance Evaluation Commission. Incumbent is responsible to ensure evaluations for judges are done in a timely and professional manner. Prepare reports, present findings, justify recommendations, provide testimony to legislative and judicial groups, monitor contracts, and supervise support staff.

Stephanie W. Pugsley Named U. of U. Law Young Alumnae of the Year

Our own YLD President Stephanie W. Pugsley was named the S.J. Quinney College of Law at the University of Utah Young Alumnae of the Year for 2008, her alma matter. She received this award at the annual alumni luncheon held May 8, 2008 at the Salt Lake City Center Marriot. She was recognized for her work with the YLD, Wills for Heroes and other projects.
