JUDGES TO HEAR GRAND JURY TESTIMONY

St. George, UT---A panel of judges is scheduled to meet on Jan. 13, 2011 to hear testimony to determine if reasonable cause exists to call a grand jury. The meeting will take place in the 5th Judicial District, Washington County Courthouse, 206 West Tabernacle, in St. George.

NOMINEE SELECTED FOR LOGAN JUSTICE COURT VACANCY

Logan, UT—Logan Mayor Randy Watts has selected Judge David Marx to fill the city’s Justice Court vacancy. The appointment is subject to ratification by the Logan City Council. The Logan position will replace Judge Cheryl Russell who has passed away.

DIVORCE EDUCATION FOR CHILDREN CLASSES SCHEDULED

Salt Lake City, UT—Nearly 11,000 Utah children are impacted by divorce each year, including 2,500 children in Salt Lake County. To address the needs of these children, the Utah State Courts offers a Divorce Education for Children class twice each month at no charge to participants. Classes take place on Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon and Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. Following are the dates for upcoming classes: Jan. 10 and 29; Feb. 12 and 28; and March 14 and 26.

NOMINEE SELECTED FOR GRAND COUNTY JUSTICE COURT VACANCY

Moab, UT—The Grand County Council has appointed David Tubbs to fill the upcoming Justice Court vacancy. The position will replace Judge Aubrey E. Holderness who is retiring February 2011.

Tubbs graduated from the University of Illinois and received a Juris Doctor degree from DePaul University College of Law. He worked for 24 years at the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) as a special agent and head of counter-terrorism. He also served as executive director of the Utah Olympic Public Safety Command where he was responsible for coordinating the efforts of 65 federal, state, and local agencies during the 2002 Olympic Winter Games. Prior to retiring, Tubbs worked as a vice president and senior vice president for a major U.S. corporation.

David Tubbs’ appointment is subject to successful completion of the court’s new judge orientation as well as certification by the Utah Judicial Council.
