Bountiful, UT---A panel of judges is scheduled to meet on May 6, 2010 to hear testimony to determine if reasonable cause exists to call a grand jury. The meeting will take place in the 2nd Judicial District, Bountiful Courthouse, 805 South Main St.

Justice Clarence Thomas to Speak at the 2010 Summer Convention

We are gearing up for another headline-making Summer Convention in Sun Valley, Idaho. Justice Clarence Thomas will be our keynote speaker. He has served as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States since 1991 and is the second African-American to serve on the Court, after Thurgood Marshall, whom he succeeded. Tooele, UT—The Tooele County Nominating Commission has forwarded the names of four nominees for a Justice Court vacancy in the Tooele Justice Court. The position will replace Judge William E. Pitt who is retiring effective May 2010.

St. George, Utah—Applications are now being accepted for an upcoming vacancy on the 5th District Juvenile Court bench. The 5th District includes Beaver, Iron, and Washington counties. The position will fill a newly-created Juvenile Court judgeship that was established during the 2010 Legislative session.

Ogden, Utah—Applications are now being accepted for an upcoming vacancy on the 2nd District Court bench. The 2nd District includes Davis, Morgan, and Weber counties. The position will replace Judge Pamela Heffernan who has announced her retirement effective June 1, 2010.

Salt Lake City, UT—The Utah State Law Library is celebrating National Library Week April 11 through 17, with a book drive to benefit the Catholic Community Services’ Weigand Center.

The Weigand Center offers a broad range of services to the homeless, including showers, laundry facilities, haircuts, and a library. The center is in need of fiction and nonfiction books for adult readers, as well as magazines.

Applications are now being accepted for the position of juvenile court judge in the Fifth Judicial District.
(Counties include Beaver, Iron, and Washington).
This vacancy results from the creation of a new position by the Legislature.

Salt Lake City, UT---The 8th District Judicial Nominating Commission has scheduled a meeting for April 15 at 11 a.m. to nominate a candidate to fill a vacancy that will result when Judge A. Lynn Payne retires July 1, 2010. The commission will meet at the Uintah County Courthouse, 1920 East Highway 40, in Vernal.

Salt Lake City, UT---The Utah Supreme Court Nominating Commission has selected seven nominees for an upcoming vacancy on the Supreme Court bench. The position will replace Justice Michael J. Wilkins who will retire May 15, 2010.

SELECTION MEETING PLANNED

Salt Lake City, UT---The 3rd District Judicial Nominating Commission has scheduled a meeting for April 29 to nominate a candidate to fill a vacancy that will result when Judge Stephen L. Roth is appointed to the Utah Court of Appeals. The commission will meet at the Scott M. Matheson Courthouse, 450 South State, in room N-31.

The Supreme Court and the Judicial Council invite comments to proposed
amendments to the following court rules. The comment period expires June
14, 2010.
