First District Trial Court Executive Appointed

Logan, UT—Utah State Court Administrator Daniel J. Becker has announced the appointment of Joe Derring to the position of trial court executive in the First Judicial District. Derring replaces Sharon Hancey who retired on May 15 after 30 years of service to the Utah State Courts.

Derring has worked for the Utah State Courts since 1992 and has served as the clerk of court in the First Judicial District since 1997. Prior to joining the courts, Derring served as a member of the United State Air Force for 15 years.

The First Judicial District trial court executive is responsible for the administration of the district and juvenile courts, which includes providing administrative support to six judges and managing support operations of approx. 50 professional and technical staff. In addition, the trial court executive is responsible for overseeing case management, court facilities, probation services, court security, and the court’s budget in the First Judicial District.
