NEW Diversion Rule
The Utah Supreme Court has approved a new diversion rule. The purpose of the new rule is to provide for an educational, remedial and rehabilitative program in select disciplinary cases where lawyers commit less serious violations of ethical rules. Generally, but not exclusively, diversion applies to misconduct with a likely sanction less than a suspension from practice. When respondent lawyers successfully complete their prescribed diversion program, the complaint will be dismissed. The new diversion rule will be effective November 1, 2007. For a complete text of the rule, please visit: www.utcourts.gov/resources/rules/approved.

The Complete Lawyer: What Can Law Schools Do Better?
Two independent, five-year studies on legal education published their findings in March 2007. While employing different methodologies, their recommendations were almost identical: Law schools over-emphasize teaching legal analysis and doctrinal knowledge and virtually ignore teaching professional skills and values.
The cover story of this issue features articles and interviews from six legal educators who are implementing or are planning exciting, innovative programs at schools, including the S.J. Quinney Law School’s Dean Hiram Chodosh. http://utah.thecompletelawyer.com/volume3/issue5/index.php?pubid=106 .
