Court Adds Wireless Access to Courtrooms and Public Areas
Salt Lake City, UT---Salt Lake’s Scott M. Matheson Courthouse has added wireless Internet access to the courtrooms and other public areas as of August 13, 2007.
In addition to the 37 courtrooms, the rotunda, foyer, clerk reception areas, State Law Library, cafeteria, jury rooms, and areas immediately outside of the courthouse have wireless Internet access.
“One of the goals of the court’s Technology Committee is to provide better access to information for court users,” said State Court Administrator Dan Becker. “This new service will allow attorneys, jurors, media, and the general public to stay in touch and informed while doing business at the courthouse.”
The Administrative Office of the Courts’ Technology Department plans to gradually add wireless Internet access to courthouses throughout the state. The Matheson Courthouse—the largest courthouse in the state—is the first to go wireless. The state’s second largest courthouse, which is located in West Jordan, is next in line to go wireless.
The wireless service for the courthouses will require users to obtain a temporary password. At the Matheson Courthouse, passwords are available at the State Law Library, which is located on the first floor.
