2007 Annual Convention – July 18-21 in Sun Valley, Idaho

Sun Valley is the perfect place to escape the summer heat. Combine great weather with beautiful scenery and add in excellent CLE and you have the perfect summer trip. This year’s program includes many useful breakout sessions on a variety of practice issues on all types of litigation and transactional law subjects. You can get up to 15 hours of CLE credit, including 4 hours of ethics and 5 hours of New Lawyer CLE credit. For the family there is ice skating, the ever popular ice cream social and the Family Picnic and Carnival which now includes an outdoor movie for everyone to enjoy. Registrations will be accepted in the bar offices until July 9th. After that, feel free to register onsite. Licensing Reminder - Late fee after July 31

Completed licensing forms with payment were due June 30, 2007. Avoid any late fees by having your completed form post marked or received on or before July 31, 2007. Licensing information is available online at: www.utahbar.org/licensing/Welcome.html. PLEASE NOTE: If you have submitted a licensing form it can take between 2 - 3 weeks for processing and the delivery of your receipt letter. Do not call if you have already submitted your payment. For questions related to the online licensing system, please contact Brooke Bruno at (801) 297-7051 or via email at onlineservices@utahbar.org. PLEASE NOTE: Completion of IOLTA reporting and the Malpractice Insurance Survey are mandatory for the renewal of you license. Please take the extra few minutes to review these areas and ensure that they are complete and current.

July 2007 Bar Exam – Held at South Towne Expo Center

With the July 24th Parade occurring in front of the Utah Law & Justice Center, the July 2007 Utah State Bar Exam will be conducted at the South Towne Expo Center. The Expo Center is located at 9575 South State Street in Salt Lake. Inquiries about the exam should be submitted to: admissions@utahbar.org.

Online CLE – Alan Dershowitz July 18, 2007

The Utah State Bar is expanding its offerings of CLE programs online. This convenient method of attending CLE programs enables lawyers to get the CLE topics they need at times convenient to their schedule. On July 18th, Alan Dershowtiz from Harvard Law School will present a live tele-seminar “Dramatic Changes in Criminal Law.” This program and many others are available for registration online at: www.utahbar.org/cle/. Law Practice Management Tip – Digital Dictation Devices

If you are in the market for a new dictation device, digital is the way to go. Especially with new integrated voice recognition technologies, these new devices are very useful in a law practice. Supreme Court Seeks Attorneys to Serve on Advisory Rule Committees

The Utah Supreme Court is seeking applicants to fill vacancies on the following advisory rule committees:

Advisory Committee on the Rules of Appellate Procedure. One vacancy. Looking for an attorney who does criminal appeals/defendant's side.

Advisory Committee on the Rules of Criminal Procedure. One vacancy. Looking for an attorney who does criminal defense work.

Advisory Committee on the Rules of Evidence. One vacancy.

Advisory Committee on the Rules of Juvenile Procedure. Four vacancies. At least one of the appointments must be an attorney who does parental defense work in child welfare cases.

Advisory Committee on the Rules of Professional Conduct. One vacancy.

Any interested attorney should submit a resume and a letter addressing qualifications to Matty Branch, Appellate Court Administrator, Utah Supreme Court, P. O. Box 140210, Salt Lake City, UT 84114-0210 or the e-mail address mattyb@email.utcourts.gov. Applications must be received no later than July 27, 2007.
