Reassignment of Cases Upon Retirement of Judges Frederick, Fuchs, and Hanson

THIRD DISTRICT COURT MEMORANDUM
TO: Interested parties
FROM: Peggy Gentles, Trial Court Executive
RE: Reassignment of Cases Upon Retirement of Judges Frederick, Fuchs, and Hanson
DATE: December 20, 2006

With three judges retiring, a number of cases will need to be reassigned in Third District Court. Salt Lake. This memorandum outlines how cases will be assigned as of January 2007

Judge Skanchy's Civil Cases

Judge Skanchy s civil cases will be assigned to Judge Faust. Judge Faust will be in Courtroom N44 Judge Faust's clerks will be Pat at 238-7351 and Khedo at 238-7324. Note that Drug Court assignments are not affected.

Judge Fuchs' Criminal Cases

Judge Fuchs' criminal cases will be assigned to Judge Skanchy. Judge Skanchy remains in Courtroom W43 Judge Skanchy's clerks are Marcy 238-7501 and Sara 238-7502.

Judge Hilder's Civil Cases

Judge Hilder's current civil caseload will ultimately be assigned to Judge Fuchs' replacement who is expected to be confirmed in January 2007. Pending confirmation those cases will be assigned in the case management system to Judge Fuchs. The new judge will be in Courtroom W45 and the clerks will be Kim at 238-7509 and Jennifer 238-7510.

Judge Frederick's and Judge Hanson's cases

Judge Frederick's and Judge Hanson's caseloads will be transitioning to a criminal calendar heard by Judge Hilder and a civil calendar heard by Judge Toomey. To accommodate this change in caseload mix some cases will need to be reassigned among Judge Hilder and Judge Toomey as well as for a few case types to other judges. Generally speaking, most of Judge Hanson's felonies will be assigned to Judge Hilder and most of Judge Frederick's civil cases will be assigned to Judge Toomey. For those cases reassigned other than as described in the preceding sentence, the Court will send a notice of reassignment to the parties or counsel. Judge Hilder will be in Courtroom N45 and his clerks are Linda 238-7383 and Mark 238-7377; Judge Toomey will be in Courtroom S34 and her clerks will be Kathy 238-7516 and Noelle 238-7515.
