Utah Minority Bar Association Wins 2006 ABA Partnership Award
Based on the successful First 50 Gala held last October by the Utah Minority Bar Association (UMBA), the ABA has awarded UMBA with its 2006 Partnership Award. This award recognizes efforts by bar associations to increase the participation and advancement of lawyers of color in the organized bar and to attract students of color to the legal profession. The purpose of the First 50 Gala was to recognize the accomplishments of the First 50 lawyers of color in Utah and the hardships they overcame to reach their goals. The event's success led to increased funding for scholarships for law students who contribute to minority communities in Utah and elsewhere. The Award will be presented to UMBA at the ABA meetings in August.
