MASS. CHIEF JUSTICE MARSHALL TO SPEAK MARCH 30

At 7 PM on March 30, Chief Justice Margaret H. Marshall will deliver the 2006 Tanner Lecture on Human Values, at the A. Ray Olpin Union Ballroom, on the University of Utah campus. All Tanner Lecture events are free and open to the public.

The lecture title is: "Tension and Intention: The American Constitutions and the Shaping of Democracies Abroad"

UTAH STATE COURTS PLAN JUDGE FOR A DAY PROGRAM

Have you ever wondered how accurate TV programs like "Law and Order," "The Practice," and "Boston Legal" are in portraying a judge's work? High school students throughout Utah will have a chance to judge for themselves as part of a new "Judge for a Day," program organized by the Utah State Courts.

UTAH COURT OF APPEALS HEADS TO ST. GEORGE

Salt Lake City, Utah-The Utah Court of Appeals is heading south to St.
George for a special session of the court on March 9 at 1:30 p.m. The court will hear oral arguments at the Washington County Courthouse, 220 North 200 East, courtroom D. The last time the Court of Appeals heard oral arguments in St. George was in March 2002.

Under its expedited rulemaking authority, the Supreme Court has approved amendments to the following Utah court rules. The amendments are effective when indicated but subject to further change after the comment period.

The comment deadline is April 7, 2006.

Notice of Proposed Amendments to Utah Court Rules - Rule 20 and Rule 20 of Chapter 18

The Utah Supreme Court invites comments to proposed amendments to the following court rules. The comment period expires April 7, 2006.

Summary of proposed amendments:

Rule 20. Qualifications for admission of house counsel applicants.
Rule 20 of Chapter 18. Rules governing admission to the Utah State Bar. The new rule will provide guidance about what an out-of-state licensed lawyer who works in-house in a Utah business or non-profit organization is permitted to do. The draft rule is presented with the petition to the Supreme Court. The attachments referred to in the petition are available from the Supreme Court or the Utah State Bar.
