The Third District Judicial Nominating Commission has selected five nominees for a vacancy in the Third Judicial District. The position will replace District Court Judge Pat Brian who recently retired. The Third Judicial District is comprised of Salt Lake, Summit, and Tooele counties.

The Third District Court has adopted the following local rule on fax filings effective February 1, 2006:

Intent:

To establish policy regarding acceptance of filings by facsimile machine.

The annual Utah Mock Trial Competition is fast approaching, and we would greatly appreciate your help. It is an exciting opportunity to interact with and support our youth as they learn about the legal system and their rights and responsibilities as citizens.

WHAT: 2006 State of the Judiciary Address

WHO: The Honorable Christine M. Durham, Chief Justice of the Utah Supreme Court

WHEN: Monday, January 16 at 2:00 p.m.-House; 2:30 p.m.-Senate

WHERE: Utah State Capitol West Building

SPEECH: Copies of Justice Durham's speech will be distributed to reporters at the capitol prior to the address. An electronic copy will be available online Jan. 17 at www.utcourts.gov/notices/
