Purpose of Position
This position provides legal support services to assigned lawyers to achieve Kern River Gas Transmission Company (Kern River) and departmental goals and objectives. Responsibilities include preparing and formatting legal documents, drafting correspondence and preparing research memos, conducting legal research, coordinating discovery and creating necessary internal reports. The position may involve contact with the public, customers, counterparties, governmental agencies, law firms and management.
Provides Support to the Following Positions
Vice President & Assistant General Counsel of Kern River, Vice President & General Counsel of the MidAmerican Energy Pipeline Group (MEPG), Attorneys (all levels) and others as specifically directed.
Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Job Functions)
Working at the direction of and under the supervision of attorneys, performs varied tasks and projects of varying complexity requiring the application of legal reasoning and judgment.
Drafts weekly, monthly and quarterly reports and prepares timely substantive memoranda on statutes and regulations of varying complexity.
Exercises decision-making and is a project manager under the direction of attorneys. Manages department calendars to alert lawyers of deadlines and/or changes to court or administrative agency due dates.
Provides support to other departments as directed by attorneys to facilitate compliance with the laws and regulations applicable to the federal and state agencies that regulate Kern River and/or MEPG, including but not limited to, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), and other state and federal regulatory agencies.
Provides support to attorneys as directed in the prosecution or defense of state and federal litigation.
Takes initiative to prepare, draft, organize and review responses to discovery in administrative agency or court matters.
At the direction of attorneys, assists in the company’s response to governmental inquiries.
Provides administrative support to the department by responding to phone inquiries, organizing department files, drafting correspondence, establishing travel arrangements, scheduling appointments, and processing departmental mail.
Performs additional responsibilities as assigned and initiates and advances ideas to achieve department and company legal objectives at demonstrated cost savings or productivity gains.
