Pro Bono Coordinator

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Department: Pro Bono

Status: Nonexempt

Immediate Supervisor: Director of Group Services

Qualifications: A background in working with the Utah legal system as either a
paralegal or a paralegal student. Strong human relations and communications skills
desired. Experience in phone and email based customer support. Candidate must be
experienced in using routine office equipment, computers and software. The position
requires the coordinator to work late on Tuesday nights as part of the Tuesday Night Bar
program.

Position Description: Coordinate Pro Bono efforts, including recruiting, program
organization, case evaluation/placement, volunteer training and project support.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Administration of the Utah State Bar Pro Bono Program which requires the
placement and maintenance of pro bono cases requested by the court and other
Pro Bono projects maintain by the Utah State Bar.
• Assist in the recruitment, retention and recognition of attorney participation in the
Pro Bono Program.
• Logistical support for the Young Lawyer service programs such as Tuesday Night
Bar and Wills for Heroes.
• Front line phone and email support for the Utah State Bar Lawyer Referral
Directory.
• Maintain records and data on all programs.
• Participates planning of program and special events as needed.
• Coordinate training and support/resources for volunteer attorneys
• Work with outside organization involved with indigent legal services (Legal Aid,
Legal Services, Disability Law Center and Court Committees etc.)
Additional Examples of Work Performed:
• Front desk phone support.
• Event registration and support for the Continuing Legal Education programs,
Admissions Exam, and Law Day. .
• Support of special projects as directed by management
• Day to day data entry as directed by management.
Required Abilities:
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Analytical ability to understand and solve unusual or difficult support questions
by supplying information that is best suited to the user.
• Understand and explain available Bar and other public services & programs.
• Works effectively as part of a small team or independently as required.
• Establishes and maintains an effective working relationship with people of all
ages.
• Provides effective customer service through phone, email or walk-in requests.
• Can maintain composure while handling complaints from the public
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making techniques.
• Skilled in using computers and internet based resources.
