The Utah State Bar is seeking a highly-qualified staff administrator to coordinate a new program which matches new lawyers with seasoned volunteer lawyer-mentors. The new lawyers and mentors participate in a series of approved activities and experiences which are designed to teach civility, ethics and professionalism and to guide new lawyers one-on-one in the technical skills and judgment necessary to effectively transition into the practice of law.
The position requires a knowledge of the Utah legal profession and the culture of the practice of law. A successful applicant must have outstanding oral and written communications skills and be able to professionally and effectively express him or herself and be comfortable in interacting with lawyers in person, by phone, via e-mail in other written correspondences. The position also requires exceptional organizational skills, familiarity with data input, retention and retrieval. The successful candidate must be able to work independently and take responsibility for the success of the program under the supervision of the Bar's Continuing Legal Education Administrator and with the assistance of Supreme Court and Bar committees. Starting salary for the position is $40,000, plus benefits .

JOB TITLE: New Lawyer Training Program Coordinator
REPORTS TO: Continuing Legal Education Program Director
STATUS: Non-Exempt
EFFECTIVE DATE: 2009
Basic Functions:
Administers all aspects of the New Lawyer Training Program (NLTP).
Records
Organizes, coordinates and updates records, forms and related web content, including:
* Keeping all NLTP data bases current;
* Tracking the yearly progress of new lawyers including enrollment, quarterly reports and certificates of completion;
* Applying CLE credits and documentation to the MCLE Board when new lawyers complete the program;
* Compiling data base of nominated, qualified, approved, appointed and matched mentors;
* Preparing any media of information for brochures, Bar Journal and on-line;
* Contacting and providing information to Bar Exam prep courses (i.e. Barberi).
New Lawyers
Coordinates participation by new lawyers and all communications with law students, law schools and new lawyers participation by new lawyers by:
* Contacting the local law schools with information about the program for 1L’s orientation and 3L’s lunch program;
* Contacting all Bar Exam applicants about the program;
* Contacting all Bar Exam takers about the program;
* Assuring that new lawyers are enrolled, or appropriately exempt or deferred,
* Assuring that new lawyers are matched with appointed mentors;
* Assuring that new lawyers submit mentoring plans on a timely basis and coordinating the approval of the plans;
* Tracking the progress of all new lawyers and assuring that new lawyers submit quarterly reports and file appropriate certificates on a timely basis;
* Assuring that new lawyers complete the required New Lawyer CLE elements and attend the required New Lawyer Ethics Course;
* Updating the Bar Alliance data base on new lawyers enrolled in the program
* Providing the Admissions Department with the appropriate documents for new admittees
Mentors
Coordinates participation by volunteer mentors and all communications with prospective mentors and mentors by:
* Coordinating mentor recruiting with Bar membership, local bars, sections, and through CLE events, conventions;
* Researching all nominees for qualifications prior to submission to the Professionalism Committee;
* Submitting qualified mentors for approval by the Supreme Court's Committee on Professionalism;
* Coordinating mentor approval through the Supreme Court's Committee on Professionalism;
* Submitting approved names to the Utah Supreme Court for appointment
* Providing Mentor Appointment Certificates to each new mentor;
* Maintaining Bar Alliance database on all appointed mentors, with their practice areas and other identifying criteria for matching;
* Maintaining the listing of approved mentors on the Bar's web site and publicizing the list in Bar Journals;
* Updating Bar Alliance data base on appointed mentors and new lawyers enrolled in NLTP.
Mentor Training
* Coordinating mentor training through the Mentor Training and Resource Committee;
* Attending planning meetings;
* Sending out meeting announcements to committee members;
* Assisting committee with administrative tasks and resources.
Other Duties
* Review and evaluate new ideas;
* Pursue new technologies for reducing expenses and expanding awareness;
* Take phone calls regarding NLTP questions;
* Provide information on the NLTP program to all Utah State Bar meetings and events by coordinating with the CLE Department;
* Coordinates with the CLE Department to insures that NLTP meet all MCLE requirements.
