Utah Bar Journal "1999 Cover of the Year"

Pictured is Brett P. Johnson, McKay, Burton & Thurman, holding the August/September 1999 issue of the Bar Journal, selected as 1999 ”Cover of the Year.” Mr. Johnson’s outstanding photograph of Barrier Canyon period petroglyphs (circa 2000 B.C.), taken in Thompson Canyon, Book Cliffs, was featured on the winning cover. This is the 5th photograph by Mr. Johnson that has appeared on a Bar Journal cover. The photograph was taken with Kodak Elite II slide film, with a shutter speed of 12, aperture setting of f 22.

Since August 1988 when the Journal first began featuring cover photographs of Utah scenery taken by members of the Bar, 35 attorneys or members of the legal assistant division of the Bar have participated. Compliments are received regularly on the beauty of the cover photos. All Covers of the Year are framed and displayed on the upper level of the Law and Justice Center. Congratulations to Brett, and thanks to all who have participated in this program.
